Canadian Talk
This has been bugging me for years, maybe someone can explain it to me. When Canadians say they are going to the hospital or the University, why do they say 'he's in hospital' or 'he's at University.' Why don't they say THE? When I hear this my brain screams that it's bad grammar and it drives me crazy!

LOL you crack me up. But you know the other thing they do is end everything with EH??? I don't get that either.
LOL I know about the EH?! They also do that up in Wisconsin, or parts of it anyway. That doesn't bother me as much as not saying THE before things.
I think with the university-they say university like we use college-so we don't say "we are going to the college," so they don't say the university. Well, that's all I came up with lol

I'm sure the Canadians will explain themselves as soon as we Southerners can justify phrases like "Mama an'em" ("I'm goin' to church with Mama an'em") and - I swear I had an uncle who always said this when I asked "how are you" - he'd respond, "Fair to middlin', how's youens?"
I still have no idea what the hell that means.
OMG Tommy call and ask Lop cause he says that ALL the time. I have no clue what it means but I have heard it all the times. And your right the south has more bad grammar problems than that.
Yes--I guess us midwesterners are the only normal talkers!
lol
Well that might because all you do is crafts out there LOL
